Pierre Seel, a French homosexual, was arrested by the Gestapo in 1941 and deported to Schirmeck-Vorbruck concentration camp. After his release, he joined the French Resistance, using his knowledge of German habits gained in captivity to sabotage operations. After the war, he remained silent about his homosexuality for decades due to stigma, finally speaking out in the 1980s to gain recognition for gay victims of Nazism.
